Podcast Episode 100: All About the Benjamin

Fank and Pope retake the airwaves to talk Briles Saga, Northwestern State, look ahead to SMU, and celebrate 100 episodes of ODP.

Wow, 100 episodes. I can’t believe we’re here. When Mark messaged me in the lead-up to the 2013 season, asking me what I knew about audio stuff, I immediately knew that he was asking about podcasting. We’d kicked the idea around before, and I’ve always wanted to do a podcast, so I jumped at the chance to produce the show. It’s been a great three years, and I’m excited to keep it going.

Before I get into the show itself, I want to stop down for a second and say thank you very much for listening to the show. Without listeners, the podcast is nothing. I appreciate all of your feedback, your comments, your questions, and even your prodding for new episodes when it’s been awhile since we dropped one on you (sorry about those times). Thank you for being the reason that I love to do this.

Now, on with the show.

What We’re Talking About!

Of course we’re leading off with the big news about the KWTX story that dropped yesterday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. If you missed it, PocketChange had a solid breakdown on ODB yesterday that you should check out. We’re throwing our $0.02 into the mix on this, albeit briefly. Whatever the truth of this situation is, the clear losers in our estimation are the football players. These are the guys that did nothing wrong, but they get to deal with another week of putting this distraction aside and focusing on the real reason they’re at this university. We’re here to support them and talk about their efforts. So, we’re moving as quickly as we can to Northwestern State!

Yeah, we’re breaking down this game.

  • Not who but how. The Bears took care of the how in a big way.
  • Front Line, with Ira Lewis as the anchor
  • Other stuff I can’t remember
  • Taylor Young off the edge
  • Secondary doing well enough.
  • Offense was vanilla and we’re okay with that
  • Special Teams excellence WAIT WHAT

We’re also quickly recapping an excellent weekend of college football before moving forward to the SMU Preview portion of the show. Of course, that gives us the opportunity to discuss my favorite Jason Kirk Masterpiece of all time, the Ranking of the Confused SMU Fan Bros. It also gives me the chance to once again share two of my favorite tweets of 2015:

And...

Given the amount of time we’d already spent on things, this was a pretty quick preview. SMU’s offense should provide a much tougher challenge for the defense, which may give us a better picture of what to expect out of that unit this fall. The real question is whether SMU QB Matt Davis will be playing or if he’s really out. He’s listed as a game-time decision.

We also quickly hit some picks of the week for Week 2. As exciting as Week 1 was, Week 2 is equally... not. We hit those rapid fire before having some fun talking about some of our favorite moments on the podcast. There is, of course, HAMBURGER HAMBURGER HAMBURGER, Mark’s slightly terrifying Gobble, Amy’s "Too Big to Love," and of course the Podcast-Basketball Curse.

Again, thank you so much for listening. What are some of your favorite moments of the show? We’d love to read those in the comments.
