This week's Friday Afternoon Video features a quartet out of Boston's Music Conservatory that started as a country-jazz fusion and turned into...something else. According to drummer Mike Calabrese, they want want to "sound like the Beatles and Motown had a party together." They gained initial internet fame by performing a slow rendition of the Jackson 5's "I want you back" on a random street in Boston and putting in on YouTube. Now they're playing on Ellen and being hailed as one of the 10 best new artists of the year by Rolling Stone.
This weeks' video is off of their 2014 album Bad Self Portraits and is called "You Go Down Smooth." As a bonus, here is a live performance of the title track off that album. You can find out more about tour stops here, although I don't see anything for Texas at the moment.
