Friday Afternoon Video: Del McCoury Band - Bloody Sunday Sessions

Happy Friday!

This has come up from time to time before, but for those new visitors to Friday Afternoon Videos, you should know that I have a weakness for the banjo. Given that our opponent this week is West Virginia, it only seems appropriate to celebrate bluegrass music. To that end, the pick this week is the Del McCoury Band. The band took home the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album with their album The Streets Of Baltimore.

As leader of the Del McCoury Band, he plays guitar and sings lead vocals along with his two sons, Ronnie McCoury and Rob McCoury, who play mandolin and banjo respectively. In June 2010, he received a National Heritage Fellowship lifetime achievement award from the National Endowment for the Arts and in 2011 he was elected into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame.
