1.21.2016 Daily Bears Report: Shootyhoops and #StripeTheFerrell

There's happenings afoot, Bears and Lady Bears.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

With things ramping up heading to National Signing Day 2016 and the basketball seasons in full swing, my hope is to bring back the DBRs as a more regular feature of the blog so that people can discuss the day's events.  Some days we'll probably have more, some days less.  But the point is that there's probably going to be something going on more often than not, and it's time to recognize that on a going basis.

That being said, if you are interested in helping out in this endeavor by taking a DBR or two during the week, let me know.  I've talked to a couple of people about this before and not followed through (my fault, 100%), so please reach out again if you want to.

Last night, the Baylor Bears men's basketball team pulled out a tough and not very satisfying 2 OT win over Kansas State, which is not a great team.  But a win is a win, so we're going to celebrate.

No. 13 MBB Defeats Kansas State, 79-72, in 2OT - Baylor Official Athletic Site
No. 13 Baylor stretched its home winning streak to 15 games with a 79-72 victory over Kansas State on Wednesday night.

More info:

That win, combined with WVU's loss earlier in the evening to Texas, gave Baylor sole possession first place in the Big 12 Conference...

And set up a showdown with the #1-ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday at 11 AM.  You should go because...

We are Striping the Ferrell vs. OU on Saturday!

Baylor is playing host to the Sooners on Saturday morning at 11 AM.  This will be (I believe) the third time the #1-ranked team has come to Waco.  I may be completely wrong on that.

You should go if you can.  That game deserves a huge atmosphere.  In other news...

Looks like our 2020 SEC opponent will be ... Ole Miss!

For a good while now, we've been waiting on confirmation of the identity of our reported 2020 non-conference, neutral-site foe from that area to the east of us.  It appears that we have gotten it from the Ole Miss side, and that Baylor and the Rebels are still working out the deets on a 2020 matchup, probably in Houston.

Arkansas had been the rumored opponent for a long time, but I think I like this better.  Ole Miss is considered a more traditional SEC power (maybe not so much in the "power" sense, but definitely in the "traditional" sense, if that makes sense), and a game against them could give Baylor more credibility in future scheduling.  In the post above, Ole Miss' Director of Athletics said that nothing is finalized; however, that is contrary to what has been reported on that Baylor side about the contract for the game being finalized, and the TV networks the only thing left to do.

Levi O Heading to the Pacific Northwest

In recruiting news, one of Baylor's biggest remaining targets took himself off the board yesterday by announcing his commitment to the Washington Huskies.  Allen DL Levi Onwuzurike committed to Washington on Twitter with the following tweet:

Baylor "Offers" Another Kicker Prospect

With Quinn Nordin doing sleepovers with Jim Harbaugh and announcing that he won't be visiting Baylor, after all, our coaches have continued the search for a kicker in this class by "offering" Frisco Centennial HS's Connor Martin.  I say "offer" because it appears to be a preferred walk-on offer at this time.

We don't know yet if Martin will take a visit or what might transpire now that we've made contact, but you can view his HUDL profile here.

That's it for today, I think.  Check back for more later!
