Men's Tennis in NCAA Round of 16
The round of 16 begins at nine this morning, but Baylor isn't scheduled to play until 7 p.m. against No. 18 South Florida. This event is Baylor's best shot at picking up a second national championship this school year after Acrobatics and Tumbling picked one up a few weeks ago, but there are a few more rounds to get through before those hopes can become a reality. The women's competition will begin tomorrow.
The sixteen remaining men's teams are as follows (by seed):
- Oklahoma
- Baylor
- Virginia
- Illinois
- TCU
- Texas A&M
- Southern California
- Georgia
- Texas
- Duke
- Ohio State
- Wake Forest
- North Carolina
- UCLA
- South Florida
- Columbia

Guys, we won a baseball game. It's encouraging, sure, and we have a chance to ruin Texas's weekend as well, but it doesn't do much to salvage a season that has been less than mediocre. Baylor will host Texas for the first of three games on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Baylor Ballpark. Saturday is one of the few truly busy days left for Baylor this year, since the vast majority of the student body has headed home for the summer and tennis is winding down. By this time next week, baseball, softball, and golf will be the only ones keeping us from the great summer void.

It's a shame that the bullpen is so shallow, because this may be Baylor's best offense in a long time. Three players (Heather Stearns, Ari Hawkins, Shelby Friudenberg) were named to the All-Big 12 first team, and a handful of others were named to the second and all-freshman teams. If Whitney Canion is still around, this is probably a national champion lineup. They can beat anyone, but consistency over short, multi-game stretches is a problem, and that's exactly what the postseason demands.
