Monday Daily Bears Report

Two tennis titles, baseball rain delay, a lack of bullpen depth for softball, and Trayvon Bromell is still fast (but so is KD Cannon).

Oklahoma State Series on Rain Delay

The first game in the OSU series in Stillwater ended in a 10-4 Baylor loss, especially infuriating since Baylor actually had more hits than the Pokes, but were foiled by poor decision making, bad defense, and errors.

The Bears currently lead game two, which was rained out yesterday and will resume today at 1 p.m. in the bottom of the sixth with a scoreline of 2-1 Baylor. Game three will follow. shortly after.

Softball Drops Series to Oklahoma

A lack of pitching depth got to Baylor this weekend as they opened up the weekend with an 8-0 domination of the Sooners but lost handily from there on out, losing game two 5-2 and game three 11-3 by run rule. Shelby Friudenberg remained dominant with multiple home runs- she is hitting .450 over the last seven games.

Coach Moore has tons of talent on this roster and there are big things to come, but pitching is becoming a serious achilles heel for this team. I trust them to beat almost anyone in a single game, but series are an issue against the top tier.

Tennis Nets Pair of Conference Championships

It was an excellent weekend for the Baylor tennis program as a whole- both the men and women won Big 12 Championships. The men's title is split with Oklahoma and will have to be settled in the postseason, but the women's title is undisputed and beautiful. Matt Knoll's team beat Tech 4-1 to win their title and Scrivano's side took down both Kansas schools to win theirs.

Equestrian Season Ends in National Semifinals

The season ended with less flair than it began with. Sadly, Baylor Equestrian fell to South Carolina at NCEA Nationals one round short of the final, capping off an excellent (if mildly disappointing) season for the team. The tournament highlights include a raw score win after a tie with Oklahoma State and riders Mary Brown and Sam Schaefer being named to the All-Championship team. Schaefer brought home the Most Outstanding Performer award for her accomplishments.

Go get 'em next season. Horses rock.

Michael Johnson Classic Cancelled Due to Weather

The Michael Johnson Classic at Clyde Hart T&F Stadium was cancelled before its scheduled end due to the inclement weather that affected much of North and Central Texas over the weekend. Before cancellation, Baylor won nine individual events. Among the notable winners are Trayvon Bromell, who ran a 10.02 in the 100m, Olicia Williams, who set a school record in the 800m at 2:03.32, and Rachel Johnson, who won the 3000m steeplechase by 47 seconds. 47 SECONDS. She had time to catch her breath and down a bottle of Victory Gatorade before second place caught up to her.

KD Cannon and Chris Platt almost made their Baylor Track debut. Cannon's 4x100 relay team came second in the event.
