Baseball Beats Incarnate Word

It's not the beatdown that any of us would have liked to see, but baseball pulled out a win against the visiting Cardinals behind strong pitching and a near-complete lack of offense.

Softball Thumps Houston Baptist

This is more like it. Baylor's offense was strong last night and Shelby Friudenberg hit her twelfth home run of the season, tying the school freshman record set by Brette Reagan in 2006 (Reagan, as many of you remember, led Baylor to a College World Series and had her number retired this season). The craziest part of this statistic is the fact that Baylor has 15 more regular season games for Friudenberg to build upon her record.

Men's Tennis Travels to Texas

No. 10 Texas is the third major power in Big 12 men's tennis this year, but Baylor has dominated in Austin the last few seasons. The two programs last met 364 days ago when Baylor beat UT in Austin to clinch a Big 12 title, but some of us will remember it as the day when Texas refused to allow the trophy presentation on their court, prompting the coaches to let fans into the locker room for the ceremony.

Baylor remained No. 2 in the polls after a narrow loss to Oklahoma.

In related news, we're a month out from the NCAA Tennis Championships in Waco, which you can buy tickets for in the embedded tweet below.

Blair Shankle Named Big 12 Player of the Week

Shankle was named the Big 12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the second time in a month after going undefeated against Texas A&M and Texas. Shankle, a sophomore, will likely be Baylor's undisputed No. 1 player next season after the departure of senior Ema Burgic. She is ranked No. 33 nationally and has won seven straight matchups.
