Wednesday DBR: Disrespect Feeds the Bear

New, comments

I'm not banning playoff talk from the DBR this week. I just encourage you to be thankful for the many blessings Baylor has received in other sports.

MBB beats South Carolina, 69-65

It was close throughout, mostly due to poor first-half shooting from Baylor's veterans, but all the moving parts came together and Baylor got the road win over South Carolina. Jonathan Motley was ridiculous for a player making his second career start with 17 points, and Kenny Chery led the team in scoring with 20 points, 18 of which came in the second half. It was a good showing by the new kids and a good win against a Power 5 opponent for Baylor's résumé.

It's true. Our biggest fear was replacing Isaiah Austin and Cory Jefferson, both NBA-caliber big men. If Motley and Deng step up, most of those worries will have been put to rest.

Volleyball vs. Texas Tonight

Texas is the best program in the conference. Baylor just isn't there yet. Godspeed, ladies.

WBB Signs Beatrice Mompremier

Kim Mulkey rounded out her 2015 recruiting class with Beatrice Mompremier, the fifth-ranked post player in the nation. Mompremier was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Florida and holds 8A All-State honors after leading her high school to a 31-1 season. Her signing comes on the heels of that of Kalani Brown, the top center in the 2015 recruiting class. All 5 of Mulkey's 2015 recruits are listed in ESPN's Top 100. The class was ranked 14th before Born and Mompremier signed, so expect that ranking to shoot up.
