Monday Lunchtime Links: WBB goes for 70 vs. UConn

Tonight, the #7-ranked Baylor Lady Bears welcome the #1-ranked UConn Huskies to the Ferrell Center. On the line is a 69-game winning streak for Baylor.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

One thing I've been hoping to do around here for a long time is improve our coverage of what is arguably Baylor's most successful sport: Women's Basketball.  To that end, I've attempted to recruit people interested in covering the Lady Bears in much more depth than I.  It's not that I don't appreciate the program or want them to succeed, far from it; I just don't have the knowledge base to write about them the same way I do football or the men's team.  I actually feel much the same way about it as I do the Baylor Baseball program, and I really like baseball.

Tonight, the Lady Bears have their biggest game yet on the season when they welcome Geno Auriemma and his UConn Huskies (they're not the Lady Huskies, right?  Just the Huskies?) to the Ferrell Center.  Baylor has a 69-game home winning streak that will be put to the ultimate test by UConn, the #1-ranked defending national champions.  On our side, we have the frontrunner for Player of the Year: senior guard Odyssey Sims.  On theirs, they have the star of last year's Final 4 in Breanna Stewart.  Oh, and the rest of a team that is 17-0 and the received every first-place vote in the latest AP Poll.  It should be a great game. Tipoff is at 6:00 tonight, and the Game Thread here will go up at that time.

In other news, today marked the beginning of the Spring Semester at Baylor and the first official day on campus for several new Bears.  As we've talked about at length, Baylor welcomed several midterm enrollees for the Spring Semester.  All that were expected to make it did except Cordell Dorsey.  His future with Baylor is unknown at this point.  Our midterm enrollees (and I still have my primer on them up on the front page):

RB Terence Williams
WR Davion Hall
OL Jarell Broxton
TE Jordan Feuerbacher

LB Grant Campbell
CB Chris Sanders
CB Tion Wright

Welcome, gentlemen!  Hope Kaz wasn't too rough on you guys this morning.
