09.24.2013 Daily Bears Report, Early Edition

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Sophomore safety Terrell Burt was named co-Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Texas' Jackson Jeffcoat. This is the first time that Burt has been honored with this award, and the first time this season for the Bears. The game against West Virginia will kick off at 7 p.m. on Oct. 5, and will be broadcast nationally on Fox Sports 1. This is also the game that the town of West is invited to, so there should be a great crowd. Tom Luicci of the New Jersey Star-Ledger asks "Is Baylor for Real?" and the AP previews WVU v Baylor a week early. It's about time that conference play started, since out-of-league play has been more trying than usual for the Big 12.

Baylor men's basketball has partnered with local schools to create a "Read-to-Win" program, head coach Scott Drew announced Monday. A total of 1,116 students will participate in the program, which will provide tickets for one of four non-conference home games, as well as incentives for reading achievements.

Volleyball defeated the University of Houston in five sets Saturday night, finishing the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup with a 2-1 record and in second place. Junior Nicole Bardaji had Baylor's best performance in the tournament with 37 kills. The Bears now face UTSA in their final non-conference match tonight at 7 p.m. in the Ferrell Center.

Finally, from Peter:

Greetings, ODBers! Tomorrow night Prashanth, special guest host Matt T. Wilson (Matt Wilson), and I will be recording the latest episode of OurDailyPodcast! It's very exciting, because as you all know, extra-special guest Dan Rubenstein from SB Nation and the Solid Verbal will be joining us. We're still planning on doing a special round of the No Huddle with him so that he can experience the fun that we have each week, so send those awesome, hilarious, and insightful questions to OurDailyPodcast (at) gmail (dot) com.

If you have a non-No Huddle question that you'd like to ask, you can either email it to us or leave us a voicemail! We haven't gotten any this week, and it'd be nice to have more than one per week to use, so step up, folks! It's your chance to shine! Give us a call at (774) 25-SICEM (257-4236). Thanks in advance!
