Brittney Griner had the night of her career yesterday, scoring a Big 12 record 50 points in the Lady Bears conference sweeping win over Kansas State, 90-68. Griner's last regular season game included her first dunk in the Ferrell Center since her freshman year, and her 14th collegiate dunk. The win solidified the Lady Bears' place in the top spot of the AP poll. After the game, the five seniors and former player (now student assistant) Shanay Washington were honored with gifts and standing ovations from the capacity crowd, most of whom stayed to celebrate the winningest senior class in program history.
Baylor football may be more dangerous than most critics are willing to admit next year, with RS junior Bryce Petty showing promise and a big arm in spring practice, along with the belief that this could be the year for Baylor's first Big 12 championship.
Baylor men's basketball had the bubble burst last night in a 79-70 loss to Texas, despite Pierre Jackson's 22 points. An only possible way for the Bears to make the NCAA tourney would be to knock off Kansas in the Ferrell Center this Saturday.
Baylor Baseball swept the Big 12 weekly awards, with Cal Towey and Max Garner receiving Big 12 Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week respectively. This is the first time for both players to earn such awards, and they earned them in the Astros Classic in Houston, where Baylor knocked off no. 12 Rice 9-2 behind Garners 8.1 inning fantastic performance. Baseball starts a 6-game homestand tonight against Louisiana Tech at 6:30 PM.
