No real football news today, aside from Gary Patterson being completely wrong about Ahmad Dixon's purported legal troubles and stewing in the wrongness that comes from commenting on a situation about which you know nothing, but two basketball games happened yesterday! (Also, Art Briles was named a finalist for the Paul "Bear" Bryant Coach of the Year Award, and the WacoTrib confirmed the signing of 4 JUCO players yesterday.)
In the first half of the double-header, the Lady Bears came back to defeat the Ole Miss Rebels 87-80, with Odyssey Sims finding her shot in the last minute to give Baylor the lead it would win by. Despite only shooting 11 for 32, Sims led the team with 39 points, while freshman Nina Davis had 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Lady Bears. Baylor hosts McNeese State next Saturday.
In the nightcap, the Bears took it to overtime against Northwestern State after the Demons tied the game in the final seconds of regulation, but Baylor took home the win, 91-84. Kenny Chery scored 12 of his total 20 points in the overtime to help the Bears earn the victory, while Cory Jefferson led the team with 22 total points and 10 rebounds, and Rico Gathers had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Baylor was playing for the first time in 10 days, due to the finals break, and a quick Northwestern State team out-rebounded the Bears 38-36, despite the Demon's smaller size.
Finally, Texas named the search committee for its new coach yesterday, and you might actually be on it.
A Word from our Fearless Leader:
Hope everyone is having a safe holiday season. BCS Bowl prep at Baylor is going strong!
