11.4.2013 Daily Bears Report, Early Edition

The weather report, polls and logjams, and a tennis victory.

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

Just three days until Baylor football! Your current forecast for Thursday:

  • Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 70. North wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
  • Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 44. North northeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Baylor held steady in all the polls through the bye-week, with FSU winning big above them, and no one else losing or playing. With one of Oregon and Stanford losing on the same night the Bears play Oklahoma, with a win Baylor could be in the top four, making for a potential logjam in the rankings to end the season. In order to break through that logjam, the Bears need to continue their winning ways, and hope that multiple teams above them fall, giving an undefeated Baylor team the wiggle room to reach the top-two.

This Thursday marks the start of Baylor's month to prove itself, with No 10 Oklahoma coming to a tarpless Floyd Casey. The Bears are a two-touchdown favorite right now, according to Vegas, but Art Briles has no thoughts about letting this team feel complacent.

Men's tennis junior Tony Lupieri won the Jack Kramer Club Intercollegiate this Sunday, the first tournament win of his college career. Lupieri defeated 71st-ranked Frances Alcantara of Pepperdine in the final, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0, to take the trophy with his fifth win over three days.

Men's golf is in Hawaii this week, competing in the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational, hosted by the University of Hawaii. The Bears are the defending champions in Kauai, though only two members of this year's team were part of last year's winning team.
