History needs to have no impact on the present this weekend in Stillwater for the Baylor Bears, who are searching for both an undefeated season and the .001 point between them and Ohio State. A historically good defense is aided by the depth of talent on the line allowing rotation among the big guys up front. Levi Norwood may be just one of many Bears stepping into a bigger role this last few weeks, but it's a position he's comfortable with. Art Briles, who took a 4-8 team and made it good, is one of the semifinalists for the Maxwell Football Coach of the Year award.
Men's basketball "outlasted" Charleston Southern 69-64, which isn't exactly a comforting headline for a team ranked no. 20 in the nation. Cory Jefferson and Isaiah Austin led the team with 16 points each, with Jefferson grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds and Austin blocking seven shots, both adding just enough to help the Bears hold on to their narrow lead.
The Lady Bears will host the Athletes in Action Classic beginning today, playing Northwestern State, Savannah State, and UTSA in a round-robin format tournament. No. 9 Baylor will play Savannah State around 7 p.m. tonight, dependent on the end of the Northwestern State/UTSA game.
Volleyball was swept by Kansas State last night in Manhattan, hitting only .047 across the three sets. The Bears come home to face West Virginia on Senior Day at noon this Saturday.
