Weekend Update with MCM: Saturday Baylor Bears Primer

Today is quite the day in Baylor Land as both basketball teams take the court for Big 12 play, the football team welcomes about a dozen official visitors to campus, and the tennis program opened its brand new indoor facility.

USA TODAY Sports

First, in case you missed the news yesterday, Baylor dedicated the new Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center last night to rave reviews. The Center marks the latest in Baylor's tremendous surge of investment in athletic facilities, including the Highers complex, new practice structures for both basketball teams, an on-campus track complex, and, of course, a new riverside football stadium. Ten years ago, this kind of progress would have been almost unimaginable. Today, it is reality. The entire Baylor community should be thrilled about how far we've come in such a short time. Oft-criticized early in our Big 12 tenure for a failure to support our programs, we are now looking at a campus full of state-of-the-art athletic facilities that will only continue to raise the profile of our Athletic Department nationwide.

Baylor University dedicated the stunning new Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center tonight with a dedication ceremony honoring the contributions of benefactors Jim and Nell Hawkins of Waco, who generously provided the lead gift to turn the dream of an indoor tennis center into a reality.

Elsewhere, in just a few short minutes, our #1-ranked Women's Basketball team will take the court against Oklahoma seeking to continue our nation's-best 15-game winning streak on the line. Baylor's 29-game conference winning streak is similarly elite nation-wide, just as our team is itself.

The top-ranked Baylor Lady Bears have a one-game lead in the Big 12 standings and put their record-setting 29-game Big 12 regular season win streak on the line when they host No. 20/19 Oklahoma Saturday.

You can click on the TV listings link on the official website (linked above, obviously) to see if the game will be available in your area.

Later this afternoon our men continue the Baylor action in Fort Worth against the TCU Horned Frogs, who are winless so far in conference action this season. That game starts at 3 and WatchESPN seems to be the best way to see it. Hopefully that is available to you.
