Big 12 Preview: Down The Stretch They Come

Teams look to keep pace with OU for the conference title hunt

Ben Queen-USA TODAY Sports

Iowa State @ Kansas
Memorial Stadium (Lawrence, KS)
11:00 AM CT, FSN
Line: Iowa State (-10.5)

3 things to watch:

  1. lol you aren't going to watch this game.
  2. so I'm not gonna preview it.
  3. I said 3 things to watch so here's the 3rd one.

Prediction: Iowa State 30 Kansas 27

West Virginia @ Texas
Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium (Austin, TX)
11:00 AM CT, FS1
Line: Texas (-1.5)

3 things to watch:

  1. Can D'Onta Foreman keep up this ridiculous stretch that he's had over the last couple weeks running the ball for Texas? Another 200 yard game against a defense like what WVU possesses and you'll start hearing Heisman talk. Well at least Heisman runner-up talk because Lamar Jackson.
  2. Skyler Howard rolled out a nice poo poo platter the last time WVU went on the road, and the Mountaineers took their only loss of the season to Oklahoma State. Can good Skyler show up against a Texas defense that is prone to big mistakes but loves to pressure the QB?
  3. Both teams have had their issues in the kicking game in 2016. Which special teams unit makes the most impact plays in a game that figures to be a close contest throughout?

Prediction: West Virginia 41 Texas 38

Texas Tech @ Oklahoma State
Boone Pickens Stadium (Stillwater, OK)
2:30 PM CT, FS1
Line: Oklahoma State (-11.5)

3 things to watch:

  1. Can Tech's defense slow down the OSU running game and make the Cowboys one dimensional on offense. They still would have to slow down Mason Rudolph and the passing game (they won't) but this at least would give the unit a chance.
  2. Will Pat Mahomes' arm literally fall off of his body before the season ends? He has had to basically act as the Red Raiders' entire offense at times in 2016. But one would think even a guy like Mahomes might wear down at the amount that he's been asked to throw the ball.
  3. Will there be points? Well it's a football game with a strong dosage of Texas Tech so you might say there will be points.

Prediction: Oklahoma State 56 Texas Tech 39
