New, comments

Looking at the rest of the Big 12 that doesn't involve a certain team wearing green and gold.

We're coming down the home stretch in the college football season (seriously how is it mid-November already) and there's still plenty left to be decided in the Big 12. Not that this is news to any of you reading this or anything. It's a light slate in the conference this week but some key games are on tap for one reason or another. Here are this week's picks:

#4 TCU @ Kansas
Memorial Stadium (Lawrence, KS)
2:00 PM CT, FS1
Line: TCU (-28)

Snowmageddon in Lawrence? The real story in this game could be the gameplan drawn up by Mother Nature. The forecast on Saturday afternoon in Rock Chalk land calls for a 50% chance of some sort of freezing precipitation during the afternoon. Unfortunately, this is a Kansas game so this is where it stops being interesting. The Jayhawks did win thie first conference game of the season last Saturday against Iowa State but this is a significant step up in weight class . TCU QB Trevone Boykin has been dynamic all season long but has not been quite as sharp in road games as he has been in Fort Worth. It'll be interesting to see how he fares in the weather conditions against a Kansas defense that actually isn't that bad. Still, TCU is looking for style points to impress the CFP committee and I think they try to roll it up on Kansas. Weird weather makes for weird football so Kansas manages to score 11 points.

Prediction: TCU 43 Kansas 11

Oklahoma @ Texas Tech
Jones AT&T Stadium (Lubbock, TX)
2:30 PM CT, ABC
Line: Oklahoma (-13)

Oklahoma will forge into Lubbock without Trevor Knight as they take on a Texas Tech team that now needs to win out to become bowl eligible. Cody Thomas will get the nod at QB for the Sooners but I'd expect him to become the handoff robot to Keith Ford, Samaje Perine, Alex Ross, etc. against a Red Raider defense that is historically atrocious at stopping the run. I would be relatively surprised if Thomas throws the ball more than 20 times in this game barring a big deficit to overcome. Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury hinted this week that he would have all of his QBs ready which could mean the return of starter Davis Webb. The Tech aerial attack could have some early success against a suspect Oklahoma secondary but in the end, I just don't see how OU's ground game doesn't dominate this game in yardage as well as time of possession. Strange things tend to happen in Lubbock but not on this day. Sooners get back on the winning track.

Prediction: Oklahoma 42 Texas Tech 28

Texas @ Oklahoma State
Boone Pickens Stadium (Stillwater, OK)
6:30 PM CT, FOX
Line: Texas (-2.5)

An interesting nightcap awaits us in Stillwater as an orange team that needs to win to become bowl eligible takes on another orange team that needs to win to become bowl eligible. Texas is riding in with a modest win streak after disposing of West Virginia last Saturday in Austin while OSU had a bye week to lick its wounds. The Cowboys look to jumpstart a sputtering offense but the Longhorn defense doesn't seem to be the most efficient way to do that. As for Texas' offense, the offensive line has finally started to gel following a season worth of injuries, suspensions and overall turmoil. Magically, Johnathan Gray looks like a RB who was once a 5 star recruit again! Tyrone Swoopes will have to manage the situation well on the road against a feisty OSU front seven but in the end, I just think the Longhorns are too talented of a team for Oklahoma State in 2014. Give me the Horns in a long scoring affair. Hooray for bowl trips to Memphis!

Prediction: Texas 24 Oklahoma State 16
