Just a few moments ago, Baylor released an announcement about a ceremony/celebration scheduled for Thursday, August 28, 2014. They're calling it the "Traditions Rally," and it will be a free event open to the public at the new McLane Stadium, on the banks of the Brazos River. Baylor is bringing in former American Idol winner Phillip Phillips to headline the event, which will also include a pep rally for the football team with a performance by the Golden Wave Marching Band, and will conclude with fireworks over the Brazos itself.
In case you don't have tickets to the game against SMU the following Sunday night, you are not entirely out of luck yet. Though season tickets for 2014 are sold out, Baylor will release single game tickets returned by opposing schools, first through the Bear Foundation and then later, starting August 6, to everyone else. If you can't make the Thursday night festivities but still want to see the Stadium before Sunday, you can also attend the high school game scheduled for Friday night. It will basically be a dress rehearsal for the Stadium as a football venue, and it will pit reigning state champion Aledo against Cedar Park.
