Game 3 Review

2:1 Utah Valley defeated Baylor.

Baylor 2-1 BYU

The Baylor Bears looked to recover from their unexpected loss against the Wolverines with a tough game against the Cougars. From the get go, the game was very physical. Both teams traded possession and a couple of shots through the majority of the first half - possession was 50-50. Baylor was lucky, however, that two handballs in and around the box were not called. The first looked incidental but the second definitely should have been called. Nonetheless, the game continued on, and Baylor's aggressiveness was finally rewarded in the dying moments of the first half. Justine Hovden worked her way to the right across goal and launched a gorgeous shot from almost 25 yards out that curved into the upper 90 (that's the top corner for you soccer newbies). What a beautiful goal it was; there was absolutely nothing the keeper could do about it.

The second half saw a quick start as Ashley York played a pass into Precious Akanyirige, who took the ball past the lone defender and shot the ball into the upper left corner to double the Bears' lead. From there, the game went back and forth just like the first until the Cougars finally got a handball call in the closing minutes of the match. The ensuing penalty kick was converted, denying Baylor of their third shutout of the season.

Regardless, this is a huge win for the Bears! Way to go girls!
