Dominic Woodson commits to Baylor Basketball

Baylor's 2013 recruiting class gained a huge member today with the verbal commitment of Huntington Prep C Dominic Woodson, one of the top-100 players in the country.

The move I predicted last night has come in this morning, as Evan Daniels of Scout.com is now reporting that Dominic Woodson has committed to Scott Drew and the Baylor Bears. We've talked about Woodson quite a bit recently and I don't feel like rehashing it again, so I'll just link to my other posts. I will add that Scout has him as the #40 player in the 2013 class, which is a little higher than most other places. At any rate, Baylor added tremendous size and strength to a class now including Ishmail Wainright (SF), Johnathan Motley (PF), and Woodson (PF/C). Here's what Jerry Meyer has to say about that class.

@jerrymeyer247

Baylor class: Dominic Woodson (32/42) highly skilled big; Ishmail Wainright (61/44) versatile grinder; Johnathan Motley (82/130) pogo stick.

I have to say that I am extremely impressed with how this class has come together after Baylor initially missed out on most, if not all, of its major targets. Julius Randle, our #1 priority and one of the best players, if not the best, in the country, is headed elsewhere, possibly to Texas. Kentucky scooped up the Harrison Twins, who eliminated Baylor when they cut their list to 3. JUCO #1 Chris Jones will enroll at Louisville and play for Rick Pitino. We've yet to find out where Isaac Hamilton and his brother Daniel (2014) will end up, but the latest news is that they're leaning to SDSU. Still, if this class stopped now it would be a top-20 group in the country for sure, maybe even top-15, in what has been considered a down year for Baylor recruiting. (Jerry Meyer says top-10 as of this moment with many prospects still uncommitted).

The good news is that I really doubt that it ends here. Baylor still definitely needs a point guard in this class due to the loss of Pierre Jackson and A.J. Walton after this season, and we'd probably like another wing, as well. That's why Stevie Clark (PG) and Hamilton (SG) fit so well in what Baylor is trying to build. We'll have to see, though, as Clark looks destined for Oklahoma State at this point. Perhaps Baylor finds another JUCO somewhere or takes a flyer, I don't know.

Anyway, ODB welcomes Dominic to Baylor with a hearty Sic 'Em!
