The big news from twitter tonight is that JUCO #1 Yanick Moreira committed to Larry Brown and Southern Methodist University tonight, removing a big target from Baylor's board for the 2013 class. Moreira had supposedly narrowed his list to the two private schools in recent weeks and already visited both. His decision was rumored to be close, I just don't know if people thought it would happen today. It did.
That commitment leaves Dominic Woodson, who I wrote about a week ago yesterday, as the only major center target left for Baylor. Somewhat coincidentally, national top-50 center Beejay Anya is reportedly leaning to North Carolina State, the other big player in the Woodson recruitment. That matters to us since Anya and Woodson play the same position, and according to Adam Zagoria, the Anya lean spurred NC State to back out of the Woodson recruitment (since they believe Anya is the better player and don't need both).
The fall signing period begins November 14 with Baylor already in possession of two commits looking to sign on that date in Ish Wainright (SF) and Johnathan Motley (PF). Woodson could make three if he pulls the trigger between now and then, or he could decide to wait until the spring period. I'd say at this point, all signs point to him being a Baylor Bear.
Jerry Meyer of 247Sports (formerly of Rivals) agrees, and posted such on BearsTruth last night. Keep an eye on this one, folks. Woodson is our last best chance to get a center in this class with significant size and strength. He'd pair well with Ricardo Gathers and Ish Wainright, in particular, in beefing up a Baylor team known as slight in the past.
