For just a few minutes, I'm going to pretend like the majority of the outcome to this game shouldn't be attributed to the fact that TCU is awful. For just a few minutes, I'm going to revel in what suddenly looked like a halfway decent Baylor team in laying waste to the Horned Frogs. Hopefully we can all enjoy this together.
Baylor improved tonight to 3-8 in conference play after shellacking the Horned Frogs in front of literally tens of people in Fort Worth. Everything went right for the Bears, who were led in points by Brady Heslip's 24. All of those came from downtown, where Heslip went a ridiculous 8-12 in the game. Isaiah Austin also had himself a game with an impressive line of 14 points, 5 assists, 4 blocks, and 4 rebounds. They were two of the five Bears-- Cory Jefferson (10), Rico Gathers (14), and Royce O'Neale being the other three-- finishing in double-digits in points for the game. 8 of Rico's 14 came from the charity stripe, where he went 8-11 for the game.
Because everything went so well, we didn't have to face what I've come to believe is the biggest flaw in this team's offense: the lack of a reliable crunch-time scorer. Everyone was able to contribute to build a big lead and keep it, so there was never a point where we had to have a bucket. That's the ideal, not the norm. In upcoming games against Kansas State and Oklahoma State, even without Marcus Smart, we're probably going to need more. Hopefully we can get it in back-to-back games at home. 5-8 heading to Morgantown with a bit of momentum will be a lot better than 3-10.
