2013 NIT: The Baylor Bears are headed to the Finals!

It was a little more hectic at the end than it needed to be once BYU started hitting crazy threes, but the Two Presidents, with a little help from Isaiah Austin, carried Baylor to the NIT Finals for the second time in the last 5 years with a win tonight over the BYU Cougars.

USA TODAY Sports

Baylor now awaits the winner of the game about to begin on ESPN between future B1G conferencemates Iowa and Maryland after downing the Cougars. That game will be Thursday night at 8 PM CST on ESPN.

Huge night tonight for Isaiah Austin with everything that has happened to/with him recently. He had 14 points and 10 rebounds and generally just looked better than he has in quite some time. He was crashing the boards and hitting shots, if he wasn't exactly dunking with authority. His performance, in addition to those we've come to expect from Cory Jefferson and Pierre Jackson (21/5 and 21/5/10, respectively), helped ensure that Baylor will get a chance to take home some hardware this season.

I would be remiss not to talk a bit about A.J. Walton, too, in light of his 10 points, 3 rebounds, and assists. At times he was the same A.J. that frustrates people endlessly, but when we needed another ball-handler late in the game when they tried to shut out Pierre, he was there. Like Pierre, he only has one more game, at most, in a Baylor uniform, so I'm happy to see things going well for both as their stays come to an end.

I'll be watching the Rangers on one TV and the Maryland-Iowa game on the other, but if someone wants to keep an eye on that one and let me know what you think in the comments, I'd appreciate it. An NIT Championship may not be what every team sets out to do when the season starts, but winning it is almost certainly better than not. And now we have a chance to do just that.

Man, Tyler Haws is really good, though.
