Baylor Knocks Off Dayton 67-66, Earns Date with Syracuse

The Bears led for all of 2 minutes in this game, and it was the two that counted at the end. They beat the Dayton Flyers tonight in dramatic style, earning a matchup with Top-10 Syracuse in Maui.

What a game!  After trailing by 14 at one point in the second half, the Bears, led by one Isaiah Austin, turned it up down the stretch, outscoring the Flyers 27-16 in the last 13 minutes of the game.  Dayton had a great look at the basket with just seconds remaining and missed it, setting up Ishmail Wainright for a huge defensive rebound as time expired.

The scoring for the Bears ended up pretty evenly-distributed.  5 Bears ended up in double figures, with Kenny Chery and Royce O'Neale each putting 13 to lead the team.  Isaiah, Gary Franklin, and Cory Jefferson all ended up with 10 points apiece, and Austin and Jefferson contributing 7 and 4 rebounds, respectively.  My personal MVP for the game was O'Neale.  When we needed him early to keep from getting blown out, he was there.  He's earned a starting role, to me.

I can't say enough about how the Bears played down the stretch in this game.  This is a good win over a good team.  Down 14 in the second half, the Bears could have easily folded, resigning themselves to what some might consider a "good" loss.  But they still managed to pull back in the closing minutes, eventually taking the lead with just :16 left in the game on Jefferson's putback.  This was a game they lost last year.  They won it now.  And as a result, we get to play Syracuse and go for 7 wins!  (I'll update when we know more about that game.)
