After a dominating second-half in Morgantown, the Lady Bears welcome Texas Tech to Ferrell Center on Monday.

Baylor (3-1, 1-0)

  • The all-time series between Baylor and Texas Tech is tied 47-47. Baylor has won 22-straight, and looks to take the series lead tonight.
  • Mulkey and new Head Coach Krista Gerlich have faced each other once before. Baylor defeated UT-Arlington in 2015 by 42 points.

Texas Tech (3-1, 0-0)

  • Texas Tech has wins against UTRGV, Houston Baptist, and Angelo State. Texas Tech lone loss was at home vs. Rice.
  • Senior Guard Vivian Gray leads the Lady Red Raiders in scoring with 17 ppg. Texas Tech has three other scorers in double digits, all guards. Gray was held to 1 point and 0-9 shooting in the loss to Rice.
  • Texas Tech has been protecting the basketball well, leading the conference so far in turnover rate, 1.70. This leads the conference and is #8 in the country.
  • Krista Gerlich is in her first year as TTU head coach. Former head coach Marlene Stollings and other coaches faced allegations from former players that the coaches fostered a toxic culture. As a player at Texas Tech, Gerlich helped her team win the 1993 national championship.

Prediction

Bears seem to have life on offense and from range. Bears will always be competent on defense. Prevent Tech from getting wide open looks from outside and win the rebounding margin.

The Lady Red Raiders are able to get scoring from multiple places, they do seem to take care of the ball well. But the defense isn’t where it needs to be. If the outside shooting is subpar, Tech doesn’t have a massive chance. Gerlich has a bright future at Tech, but emphasis on future.

Baylor wins comfortably, but maybe the score doesn’t reflect how comfortable. 67-55.
