WBB: Big 12 Power Rankings, Round 4

Starting to see through the fog and see some clarity.

My deepest apologies to everyone for this being a day late. I got all your email and tweet about it missing yesterday. Now back to why you came:

(1) Baylor (Last Week: 1)

Last Week vs Texas W 75-58 vs Kansas State W 68-46
This Week at TCU vs Kansas

I think that all of Baylor Nation knows by now that Baylor dominated Texas on an incredible Monday night game. They followed this up by win over Kansas State, that, based on the comments on the recap was a less than stellar game for Baylor. However, last year we had a poor showing and lost to Kansas, this year we only beat Kansas State by 22.

(2) Oklahoma (Last Week: 2)

Last Week vs Oklahoma State W 73-54 vs Texas Tech W 70-64
This Week at Texas at West Virginia

Oklahoma continues to play well and remains the only other unbeaten team in conference play. This week will prove an interesting one with Oklahoma going to Texas in a battle of pre-conference expectation vs conference performance.

(3) Iowa State (Last Week: 4)

Last Week vs TCU W 80-62 at Texas W 58-57
This Week vs Kansas vs Oklahoma State

Iowa State continues to surprise me. Not that I ever think a Bill Fennelly-coached team is out, but I didn't pick them to be the #3 team in the conference nor did I have them sweeping Kansas State and Texas. Their only losses are to Baylor and a close game to TCU in Fort Worth, a team that has been playing very well at home.

(4) Texas (Last Week: 3)

Last Week at Baylor L 58-75 vs Iowa State L 57-58
This Week vs Oklahoma at TCU

If you predicted that Texas would lose 4 of their last 5 games, I would like to borrow your crystal ball before the Super Bowl. While it is tempting to drop Texas lower, remember that all of their losses have come to teams currently ranked higher than them in the power ranking. Add in the fact that they only lost by 1 to Iowa State in their first game after losing their leading scorer and rebounder in the Baylor game, and I feel comfortable placing them at #4. As I commented earlier, the Texas - Oklahoma game is shaping up to be a telling game for the season. Will Texas figure out how to live post-Nneka Enemkpali or will the surging Oklahoma continue their streak?

(5) TCU (Last Week: 5)

Last Week at Iowa State L 62-80 at Oklahoma State W 71-62
This Week vs Baylor vs Texas

TCU lost a rough game at Iowa State, but we are learning that Iowa State is better than any of us predicted (well, at least I predicted). They went to Gallagher-Iba Arena and picked up a key road win.

(6) Oklahoma State (Last Week: 6)

Last Week at Oklahoma L 54-73 vs TCU L 62-71
This Week at Kansas State at Iowa State

Oklahoma State had a rough week. First, they had to be the next victim of the Sooner Express and then came home and lost to a continually improving TCU team. Maybe their week can start better.

(7) West Virginia (Last Week: 7)

Last Week vs Kansas State W 63-51 at Kansas L 59-65
This Week at Texas Tech vs Oklahoma

West Virginia is a team that I feel should be doing better this year, but it seems to be solidly a rebuilding year. The did beat a down Kansas State but lost to a struggling Kansas.

(8) Kansas (Last Week: 10)

Last Week at Texas Tech W 68-66 vs West Virginia W 65-59
This Week at Iowa State at Baylor

One of the angry email I got was from Bonnie Henrickson. Georgia Bear rightfully called me out for my comments last week and I incited the entire Kansas team to fire off two victories in a row

(9) Texas Tech (Last Week: 8)

Last Week vs Kansas L 66-68 at Oklahoma L 64-70
This Week vs West Virginia vs Kansas State

Oh, Tech. I don't fault you for losing at Oklahoma; that could happen to anyone. But to lose to Kansas at home? You have to take care of that home court.

(10) Kansas State (Last Week: 9)

Last Week at West Virginia L 51-63 at Baylor L 46-68
This Week vs Oklahoma State at Texas Tech

At least Kansas State has men's basketball, right? I'm glad they got their lone win against Kansas before I provoked them.
