Tuesday DBR: We Compete. We Win.

Kim Mulkey and her Lady Bears are the Big 12 Champions for an astounding 11th time!

The referees were abhorrent. The Mountaineers were physical. Kim Mulkey got angry. Bria Holmes carried the 'Eers with 24 points. Despite all this, your Baylor Lady Bears won their fifth Big 12 Tournament crown in six years. Can you say dominant?

2014 Big 12 Women's Basketball Tournament: Baylor Wins Big 12 Championship!

What. A. Game. I know I was rather dismissive of West Virginia after the game in Waco. No longer. They are a darn good basketball team and I fully expect them to make a deep run in the Tourney.

The Lady Bears were beaten, smacked, fouled, and "punched" (Mulkey's word). They could have easily given up and let West Virginia pummel them into submission. Instead, they rose up and won the battle. Niya Johnson and Odyssey Sims led Baylor in scoring with 19 points while freshman Nina Davis put up 16. Johnson also had six assists. In my opinion, Niya Johnson narrowly edges out Nina Davis for Player of the Game honors due in large part to her ice-cold free throwing shooting in the final minute. Not to be outdone, Nina Davis earned herself the Big 12 Tournament's Most Outanding Player award. She's a freshman, y'all.

In her post-game conference, Kim Mulkey said, "KK needs to be written about." Yes ma'am, Coach. Freshman post Khadijiah Cave is rarely talked about, but she was one of the unsung heroes of the game. KK had crucial rebounds during the course of the game (6 total), along with 7 points. Another unsung hero, junior Sune Agbuke, had 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 8 points while holding Bussie to 6 points (got that last one from Craig Smoak). Finally, I would be remiss to not mention senior Makenzie "Z" Robertson. While the stats usually do not show it, Z is a vital part of this team. Robertson hustles more than most anyone out there on the floor and does a phenomenal job of disrupting offensive players' drives to the basket. Obviously the Lady Bears will miss Sims, but I think we're going to miss Z's heart and hustle just as much.

The way the team rallied together in this game was a joy to see. Both Sims and Davis went out early in the second half with four fouls, but Niya Johnson and company stepped up big and filled the holes. That is the sign of a truly good team. I could probably write for hours on this team, but I've got to go out of town tomorrow and I haven't even packed, so I'll cut it off here and leave you with some Tweets.

I love this photo.

Finally, early on in the game, I tuned in from the Stars game (more on that in a bit), to see Nina Davis pull off a sweet spin move that led to a basket, giving the world this Tweet:

Baseball's Josh Michalec Named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week following his three saves from the past week. Michalec held hitters to just a .067 batting average. He is the second Baylor reliever to earn the honor. Sic 'em Josh!

Baseball Travels to Houston for Midweek Tilt vs. Cougars - BaylorBears.com

Baseball looks to carry their momentum from the weekend series versus Cal State Fullerton into Houston as they face the 11-3 Cougars at 6:30. RHP Drew Tolson is predicted to get the start. Click the link for more information than I could ever hope to provide regarding the baseball team.

Men's Basketball does not play until Wednesday, but the official preview is up on BaylorBears.com. Baylor will look to crush TCU for the third time this year.

Season Ticket Sales Closed Out For McLane Stadium Inaugural Season - BaylorBears.com

Baylor sold out their allotment of season tickets for 2014. With about 28k season ticket holders and 8-10k students at every game, I like the chances of Baylor selling filling up McLane Stadium's 45,000 seats. Honestly, I will be supremely disappointed if the SMU game is not a packed house.

Best of the Rest

Women's Tennis Drops 4-1 Decision at No. 3 UCLA - BaylorBears.com

While UCLA were expected to win, losing is never fun. However, Jordaan Sanford did upset ninth-ranked Chanelle Van Nguyen for the best win of her career. The Lady Bears will look to rebound against USC today at 3:30.

March Madness

CBS's Jerry Palm still has Baylor sitting at an 8 seed. Their first round match-up is No. 9 Arizona State, followed by No. 1 Florida. I sincerely hope Baylor is able to get a better draw than this.

SB Nation's Chris Dobbertean also has Baylor at an 8 seed. However, he has Baylor in the Midwest Regional facing Gonzaga and Wichita State. Gonzaga has a better record than Arizona State, but an easier schedule. Still, they should not be taken lightly and nothing will be easy in the tournament, but you have to like the Bears' chances after competing in the best basketball conference in the nation.

Baylor fans love sideline celebrations. Our football redshirts party it up on the sidelines. Rico Gathers, etc. regularly entertain us with their antics. But what Colby College does might just top all of that.

Joel Embiid injury: Kansas star out for Big 12 Tournament - SBN

This is a huge loss for Kansas that could make the Big 12 Tournament a whole lot more interesting.

Rich Peverley

Dallas Stars player Rich Peverley collapsed on the bench during the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets last night. The event was utterly terrifying. The stadium was deathly silent for a good 10-15 minutes as players, announcers, and fans alike waited to find out what had happened. Thankfully, Peverley is in stable condition as of this writing. The Stars commentators were extremely professional during the events and I applaud them for that. It was not an easy situation to commentate. The NHL rightfully postponed the game after the proper procedures were followed.

Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers as he undergoes recovery.

Extra! Extra!

The Vancouver Canucks were up 3-0 going into the third period. They lost 7-4. Yes, the 25-33-9 New York Islanders playing without their best player.
