Baylor Lands Gerry Bohanon: 4-star QB and No. 1 Player in Arkansas

They did it!

NCAA Football: West Virginia at Baylor Ray Carlin-USA TODAY Sports

The crown jewel of Baylor’s 2018 class is officially in the fold with the announced commitment of Gerry Bohanon, a 4-star QB and the No. 1 player in Arkansas. Bohanon is the 229 overall player in 247Sports’ Composite rankings and the 11th-ranked dual-threat QB in the country. He committed to Baylor over offers from Arkansas, Ole Miss, Louisville, Auburn, Oregon, North Carolina, Alabama and a host of others. He announced his decision just minutes ago at a ceremony in his high school that was being viewed on Facebook by several thousand people.

Bohanon has been a star at Earle High School since his freshman year, when he was honorable mention All-State. He threw for over 2,700 yards and ran for 1,134 as a junior with 41 total touchdowns. After such an impressive season, he performed well at the Elite 11 camp, which hosts the top rising senior quarterbacks. SB Nation wrote about his performance in May, prior to his senior year. This year he threw for over 2,200 yards and 34 TDs and added 1200 rushing yards. He ended his HS career with over 11,000 yards passing and 5,000 yards rushing according to the stats announced at his ceremony.

Bohanon has been the focus for Baylor’s staff. At 6-4, 218 he has premium size for the position and plenty of athleticism to make our system work. He’s also know for his incredible arm strength as shown in the videos below.

Baylor went all in for a quarterback that some might have thought they couldn’t land. He’s from Arkansas, and in recent days, the Razorback’s new coach, Chad Morris, had made Bohanon a priority. And he took a visit to Memphis this past week, which is close to his hometown. But the long-term relationship with Baylor’s staff paid off. They had a plan, and they got the guy they wanted.

With Gerry’s commitment, the Baylor recruiting class now sits at 23 going into tomorrow’s early signing day (some of the information below will update in the next few minutes as the services catch up to the commitment).
