Recapping Baylor's Recent Offers for the 2017 Class

So I fell behind a bit in keeping track of our latest offers after I wrote an entire post about how I wanted to be better about doing that. Whoops!

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about Baylor's offers to JK Dobbins, Grant Delpit, and Keldrick Carter, three 4* recruits from La Grange, Houston, and Plain Dealing, Louisiana, respectively.  I wrote that post because it was a pretty big deal at the time for Baylor to give out three offers back-to-back-to-back like that.

Then the next day we gave out five.

Let's start from the top.

February 12, 2016:

LB Josh Clarke -- 3* -- New Orleans, LA.

On February 12, a day after offering Keldrick Carter, the Bears dipped back into Louisiana to take a shot at Josh Clarke, a New Orleans LB holding offers from Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and Ole Miss, among others.  LSU is the leader at 100% on Crystal Ball despite the fact that they haven't offered yet.  That's probably not a bad guess, honestly.  If he hasn't "blown up" already with his offer list, he soon will.

OT Chuck Filiaga -- 4* -- Murrieta, CA

If I had to identify any one "hot" OL in the country right now, it would be Filiaga, who has received offers from Baylor, Texas, TCU, Arizona, and Arizona State within the last couple of weeks.  In all likelihood, he stays out on the west coast for his CFB career, but we'll see. USC leads on Crystal Ball.

JUCO DE Isaiah Buggs -- 3/4* -- Mississippi Gulf Coast CC

Baylor has been surprisingly active on the JUCO front so far in the 2017 cycle, and Buggs is the latest beneficiary.  He has too many offers to mention at this point, but it should be noted that he tweeted a top 10 of sorts (or just ten schools, I guess) today, and Baylor made that cut (if it was one).  He's an elite JUCO DE in this class; in fact, he could probably start for us right now.

JUCO LB Gary Johnson -- Unranked -- Dodge City CC

Don't let that "unranked" business fool you; Johnson is a beast.  I'm not one to fawn over Alabama, as you all know, but when they offer a JUCO LB, I tend to take notice.

ATH Frank Harris -- 3* -- Schertz, TX

As he indicated in his tweet, Baylor offered Harris, a HS QB, at defensive back in the 2016 class.  Harris is arguably the least-heralded member of this list based on rankings and offers, but Baylor saw something in the hyper-athletic stud that they liked.

February 22, 2016

DE Logan Rudolph -- 3/4* -- Rock Hill, SC

Someone will correct me on this, I'm sure, but I think this might be our first South Carolina offer of the Art Briles Era.  Like several members of this list, Rudolph has blown up a bit in recent weeks, receiving offers from Nebraska and Notre Dame in addition to Baylor. I'd be really curious to know what kind of connection we have to this kid or his school, since we've never really been much of a player out there before.

TE/DE Nick Robinson -- 3/4* -- Oklahoma City, OK

The latest addition to our list is Nick Robinson, who apparently plays everything from WR to DE for his high school team in at Putnam City West HS in Oklahoma City.  He holds offers from Tennessee, Oklahoma State, and Memphis so far.

Other News:

  • Of Baylor's previous offers, Grant Delpit is probably the "hottest" name in recruiting circles.  Since Baylor offered on February 11, the 4* safety has also received offers from LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Houston, and Ole Miss, to just name the ones showing immediately on his profile.
  • JK Dobbins has also gotten a good bit of attention with offers from Ohio State and Tennessee since last we looked at his lists.
  • I missed an earlier offer from 2/3 to 3* DE Dayo Odeyingbo from Carrollton Ranchview HS in the Metroplex.  You should check out his profile.
  • Rivals updated their Top 100 today, and Baylor offeree DT Marvin Wilson remained in the #1 spot overall.  I say "Baylor offeree" like that wasn't obvious already, considering he's a superstar DT from Houston.

I really think that I missed one somewhere, so I'll look for that and update when I find it!
