I meant to prewrite this post since we knew he was going to commit somewhere tonight, but I didn't. That's on me. Instead, we'll jump right to what you need to know about the newest Baylor Bear.
First, the commit tweet from CAB, which, interestingly enough, did not include his normal hashtag:
Now, the vitals:
Name: Donovan Duvernay
School: Sachse HS (Sachse, TX)
Weight: 177 lbs
Rankings: Composite: 83.89 (3*, #1093 Nat'l, #77 ATH), 247: 85 (3* #992 Nat'l, #74 ATH)
Profiles: 247Sports, Rivals, Scout, ESPN
Offers: Baylor, TCU, Michigan, Boise, Houston, SMU
Perhaps the lesser-known of the Duvernay twins due only to the fact that his brother is a 4* WR (that Baylor would also love to have), Donovan is a tremendous player in his own right as both a corner and wide receiver for the Sachse Mustangs. It's been reported that Donovan will likely join our burgeoning 2016 DB class and play on that side of teh ball in college, but don't be surprised if Baylor takes every opportunity to get him the ball on special teams, as well.
At 5-9, Donovan has some growing to do before he's ready for Big 12 play, but he's got the kind of speed that Phil Bennett loves from his cornerbacks and enough athleticism that he can play larger than he is. He's also completely electric with the ball in his hands, something I know our coaches appreciate from players on both sides.
With Donovan in the fold, Baylor now has 14 commits in the 2016 class, including a somewhat incredible 6 (!!) defensive backs. They are:
Offense: QB: (1/1), RB: (1/1), WR: (2/3), OL: (2/4)
Defense: DT: (1/?), DE: (0/?), LB: (1/?), NB: (0/?), CB: (4/?), S: (2/?)
I'm digging it.
