With the onslaught of 2016 recruiting and Baylor's amazing run in that class, it seems in recent weeks that the 2015 class, which has yet to sign, faded somewhat to the back page. We hadn't received a commitment in some time for that group, weren't hearing much news about who the next potential commit might be, and were in somewhat of a holding pattern on a few of our biggest targets. That changed this morning with a commitment tweet out of left field for Austin ATH Jameson Houston:
#512 #DreamBigDreamBaylor

We'd been on the lookout for a #DreamBigDreamBaylor for 2016 recruit Eric Cuffee, who has still not been formally acknowledged, but didn't expect any 2015s to pop today. Let's take a closer look:
Name: Jameson Houston
Position: DB
School: St. Michael's Academy (Austin, TX)
Mascot: Crusaders
Height: 6-2
Weight: 190 lbs
Rankings: Composite: 78.59 (2*), 247: 78 (2*)
Profiles: 247Sports, Rivals, Scout
Video: HUDL, YouTube (track)
I can really only tell you in so many ways that this commitment apparently wasn't expected by any of the recruiting services. From what I have been told, though there is quite a bit of intrigue surrounding Houston's eventual position, Baylor likes him at CB. If that's true (and I have no reason to doubt the person that told me), he will be a larger CB in the mold of Xavien Howard, a tremendous departure from recent stalwart CBs like Joe Williams and K.J. Morton. After initially putting a range on his weight this afternoon, I was told this evening that he weighs 190 pounds. 6-2, 190 pounds? Absolutely.
My somewhat educated guess here is that Houston will, in fact, play CB for Baylor, filling the spot previously vacated by John Humphrey's decommitment. He set a TAPPS (that's the private school version of the UIL) record this past year in the 200m with a 21.51 FAT, so you know he has speed. From the video above showing his highlights, which include quite a bit of time on offense, as well, you can see his athleticism. As I said in the July Recruiting Thread, he reminds me somewhat of Kiante Griffin, an athletic freak for whom the Baylor staff had high hopes prior to his decision to leave this past spring. Keep in mind that he plays for a small private school in Austin, which could make his highlights somewhat deceptive and his recruiting (so far) limited. As often happens, though, now that he's committed to Baylor, I expect him to get another evaluation from the recruiting services. We'll see what happens when he does. If you're curious, he reportedly camped several times with Baylor and Texas, and has been linked to the Longhorns in the past.
For now, Baylor is back at 11 commits again and might just be full on CBs, although you know that if a guy like Holton Hill wants to jump on board, we would find room. Take a look at his film and tell me in the comments what you think!
UPDATE: Baylor definitely offered Houston today, and he committed on the spot.
