Baylor Football Recruiting Notes: July 2014

Baylor enters the last full month of summer with 10 commits again after recent "troubles." Will another huge camp help things along? We'll see.

Baylor has 10 verbal commits for the 2015 class and is poised to fill out the class over the coming months.  Where do we go from here?

2016 Wish List:

This will be basically a shot in the dark based off our 2016 offer list.  Some of them are more obvious than others based on who we've had in town and how many times we've heard their names. I think we can assume that we'll be at 85 scholarships again with the 2015 class.  We have 17 juniors (by their classification now) graduating in 2016.  I think we're safe projecting a class of around 20, maybe more, on that basis.

This is by far the earliest I've ever tried to put together a Wish List, and before you tell me that the vast majority of these guys are 5*s we won't get, I know that.  There will be a ton of movement on this list since I'm starting so early.

UPDATES:

Baylor's last summer camp of 2014 is coming up two weeks from this Friday (that would make it 7/18).  Should be a very good weekend.

2015 Recruiting:

DB Jameson Houston (7/30): Committed to Baylor today.  Has offers from KSU and Purdue.  This came completely out of left field, and it may take me a while to get enough information together for a full post.

OT Conner Dyer (7/29): Committed to Texas Tech today.  Not sure where Baylor goes for HS OTs in this class now, and we sorely need one.

OLB Malik Jefferson (7/27): Visiting Baylor today. Doesn't get much bigger than that for 2015.

CB Kris Boyd (7/18): Less than a week after observing that it is Baylor, in fact, who runs this state, Boyd will visit Waco for the first time today for camp.

Seems to have enjoyed himself.  I'm adding him back to the Wish List.

RB Soso Jamobo (7/10): Baylor-Oregon battle, imo.

LB Malik Jefferson (7/10): Dominating The Opening right now.  Coach Gush is all over him for Baylor.

2016 Recruiting:

S Eric Monroe (7/31): Baylor offered today.  LSU looks like the team to beat at this point.

DE Erick Fowler (7/31): Baylor offered yesterday, then every twitter account related to recruiting picked him up today.

CB Eric Cuffee (7/20): Reportedly committed today, although there is some question about whether it is official yet.

WR Tren'Davian Dickson (7/18): Committed!

OL Patrick Hudson (7/18): Committed!

DE Isaiah Chambers (7/18): Reportedly visiting today.

QB Zach Smith (7/18):  Should probably go without saying Baylor's 2016 QB commit will be there, but he will.  So I said it.

RB Kameron Martin (7/15): Committed to Baylor.

CB Grayland Arnold (7/13): Coming Friday.

ATH D'Eriq King (7/13): Coming Friday.

WR Marquez Stevenson (7/13): Coming Friday.

OT J.P. Urquidez (7/10): Sounds like he'll be here for the camp on 7/18.

RECRUITING THOUGHTS:

This thread is as bare-bones as any I've ever made because there isn't that much recruiting news rolling around right now.  That will change in the coming weeks, especially with regard to the 7/18 camp.

My focus in the coming days will be on how we plan to fill the rest of the 2015 class.  Right now, it seems like most of the guys we'd be looking at for the last 6 spots will probably wait a while, so things could cool off.  It's still worth looking at who those guys might be and how that process might unfold.
