Just days after welcoming a former 2013 commitment, OT Maurice Porter, back into the fold for next January, Art Briles' staff has yet another reason to celebrate with the addition of 2015 ATH Louis Brown. Brown chose the Bears this morning over offers from at least 8 other major schools, including Oklahoma, Oregon, Oklahoma State, and Notre Dame. His tweet:
Committed today, go bears. #BaylorGang— -----R.N.I.C------ (@loulouking21) March 3, 2014
I believe the plan for the 6'6" Brown, who has played everything from free safety to tight end to wide receiver for Burton High School in Burton, Texas, to eventually end up on the defensive line at Baylor. Brown himself has his eyes on the jersey number of one Shawn Oakman, a similarly-sized (at least in height) athlete that defensive line coach Chris Achuff has molded into an absolute monster.
Name: Louis Brown
School: Burton HS (Burton, TX)
Weight: 208 lbs.
Ranking: Composite: 87.8 (3*), 247: 94 (4*)
Profiles: 247, Rivals, Scout, ESPN, HUDL (w/ videos)
Check out the graph for Brown's predictions on his 247Sports profile. Until last night, Oklahoma State "led" for his services. Then BearsTruth sent out a very interesting text message and things started to change for the fast-rising prospect. 247Sports has him as a 4* now, but I'm going to bet that all will soon.
Speaking of stars, with Brown's commitment, all of Baylor's HS recruits are once again ranked 4* by either 247Sports or their Composite industry ranking. Porter could join them when the JUCO evaluations begin. Hopefully that trend will continue as we fill up the rest of what we already know will be a relatively small class of 15 or 16. Assuming we're right and he plays defensive end, we're likely done at that position if/when another 4* DE, James Lockhart of Ennis, pulls the trigger. Take a look at Louis' HUDL profile and tell me what you think about his future for the Bears. Oh, and of course, throw him a follow on twitter!
Baylor's 2015 Recruiting Class:

ATH/WR: Blake Lynch
