Baylor Football Recruiting Notes: May 2013

At the beginning of the month of May, Baylor stands at 5 commitments for the 2014 class. Word is we should expect more any day. This is the running thread for updates through May as camps begin and school years begin to end.

Kent Horner

Things worked out pretty well in the April thread, so here we are. If you see something I don't, feel free to post it in the comments!

2014 Recruiting:

UPDATES:

QB Aaron Sharp: Our 3 QB offers has now become 4 with Sharp receiving one today (May 11). He's a 6-3, 190-pound left-handed QB from Houston. Check out his HUDL videos here. Sharp visited this past weekend, liked what he saw, and gave our 247Sports site an interview about his experience. He will camp with us this fall.

UPDATE: Texas offered Sharp yesterday (5/29) and he will camp there this weekend. If they pressure (which they will), he might commit. The Texas boys on the Crystal Ball have now switched their predictions from 4/4 Baylor to 2/4 Baylor, 2/4 Texas.

OT Ty Barrett: Baylor made the final 7 for the 3* OT, one of our favorites at the position next to Jovan Pruitt.

JUCO OL Frank Kee: Baylor offered the Tyler JC prospect this week, joining Oklahoma and Southern Mississippi as his only offers so far. He's a guard all the way.

UPDATE: Kee visited Baylor this past weekend (5/25) and is supposed to make his decision by the middle of June.

OLDER NEWS:

RB commit Terence Williams: Not really an update, but 2015 stud James Lockhart, TWill's teammate, tweeted this after their spring game today.

CB John Plattenburg: Quite possibly the most impressive offer list I've ever seen for someone Rivals ranks as a 3*. You've got most of the Pac12, an SEC school or two, and now Baylor, in addition to Boise and others.

247Sports did an interview with him, and it turns out that Plattenburg is actually from Texas originally. Baylor actually has a chance here.

ATH Jourdan Blake: Baylor offered the Princeton QB, who might not play QB in college, today (May 21). Has offers from Oklahoma State, Illinois, Arizona State, and others. Interest from Oregon and TCU.

WR/S Davion Hall: Baylor's highest-ranked commitment, fresh off his offer last week from Texas, received the same from Alabama today. This could be something to watch, since I've read Hall quoted in the past that this offer was one he wanted. On the other hand, Imani Wright, a member of Baylor WBB's 2013 recruiting class, says not to worry about it.

JUCO LB Dvonta Derricott: #1 JUCO ILB in the country for 2014. Goes to school in Kansas, so I'd expect one of those two schools to snag him. I'd actually bet money on it. His recruitment has accelerated recently to include several more schools, including Baylor.

Baylor has made Derricott's top 5. Call me a homer if you want, but that sounds like a battle we can win.

RB Corey Avery: Holds offers from LSU, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, and soon a host of others. Listed as an "athlete" in some databases, he could be the lightning to Terence Williams' thunder in the 2014 class. Rivals says he is planning to visit after receiving his offer earlier this month.

DB Nick Watkins is on campus today (May 10). He's got offers from Alabama, LSU, and just about everybody else of consequence in the SEC, as well as Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan, etc. I could keep going.

WR Ishmael Zamora: Received a Baylor offer today (May 9). Seemed pretty excited about it on twitter. Great size at 6'4", 200 pounds, and plays like it on his highlights.

S Jason Hall: Committed to Nebraska in early May, then received a Baylor offer. Might he be interested in staying a little closer to home? Apparently not.

JUCO DT Claude Pelon: Not a whole lot out there about the Mesa CC DT, but he has one heck of an offer list. I can't tell if this is one we just offered or that has had it in-hand for a while. Basically the entire Pac 12 is in on him. Baylor offered last week.

LB Sam Sizelove: Kansas State commit the Bears are making a run at this week. Plays at Argyle HS here in Texas.

DT Cedric Johnson: Holds a Baylor offer. It's a down year for big uglies on both sides in the state, so this would be a great get if we could swing it. (Spoiler alert: we lead according to the link in this tweet).

TE Anthony Jones: From Edna Karr HS in New Orleans. Probably going to be a LSU Tiger, but following our offer on May 1, we made his latest top 5. Maybe we should take this more seriously than we thought.

QB Brandon Harris: Not much to report from Baylor's end since Harris already holds an offer and is likely the #2 QB on our board. Others are starting to take notice, however, including Texas A&M, Ohio State, Auburn, Mississippi State, and several others. Wescott Eberts wrote about him on May 1.

DT Andrew Morris: Baylor offered on May 2. Morris isn't ranked very highly, but it's hard to tell if that's a result of a lack of attention or him just not being that good. We think he is at least decent.

2015 Recruiting:

UPDATES:

RB Jay Bradford: Hard to believe nobody has offered him already. Before we did, I mean.

S Larry Pryor: Baylor offered 5/28.

QB Blake Lynch: We've been waiting to see if/when Troup QB Blake Lynch would get an offer, and it may have happened tonight. I can't confirm or deny. He tweeted this tonight (May 3). Another commit alongside superQB Chad President would be interesting to see.

Baylor leads as of May 3 for the 2015 stud. We offered on May 28, becoming his second offer after Mississippi State. From the sound of things, we still lead, and he's visiting for our camp on June 9.

We now have 3 offers out at the QB position for the 2015 class.

OLDER NEWS:

RB Tyreik Gray: Baylor offered May 16.

DT Daylon Mack: One day after offering the T.D. Moton, Baylor offered all-everything DT Daylon Mack, who has just about every option in front of him. Considering he holds offers from Alabama, A&M, OU, and Texas, I'm wondering if we didn't wait to offer on purpose, to make the argument to Moton that we liked him even better. Just a thought.

DT T.D. Moton: From Shreveport, already 6-4, 310. We won't be his last offer, even if we were his first. Seriously, the dude is 6-4, 310 pounds going into his junior year. He's going to be an absolute monster. The good news is that he likes us.

2016 Recruiting (seriously!)

WR Tre Jackson (Baton Rouge, LA): We're not even allowed to give out written offers for 2016 kids yet. But here we are. #1 on this kid's list.

That's it for now.
