Baylor snags commit #4 for 2014 in OG Devonte Jones

The big man from Bellaire, Texas didn't take long to figure out where he wanted to be. Baylor offered on Thursday, he visited Friday, and this morning, he pulled the trigger.

USA TODAY Sports

The relative recruiting malaise that had set in over the Baylor program after three quick commits to start the 2014 class is over; massive OG Devonte Jones became commit #4 this morning after Baylor offered the Bellaire junior a scholarship on Thursday afternoon. Jones becomes the first OL commit in a class I wager will have several.

Name: Devonte Jones
Position: OG/OT
Height/Weight: 6'4", 295 lbs.
HS: Bellaire HS (Bellaire, TX)
Profiles: 247Sports, Scout, Rivals (none yet)
Offers: Baylor, interest from Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M (according to profile)
Commit Articles: 247Sports, Scout
Highlights: HUDL

In the highlights above, Jones plays both guard and tackle for his high school team, and I'm not totally sure where he fits for us. His size gives him the potential flexibility for both, but the fact that he plays more guard than tackle in high school could mean that is his better spot. We'll have to see. As I said, I think he will be just the first of several OL recruits in this class, but the fact that our coaching staff saw fit to offer him says volumes about his ability. They've earned the benefit of any doubt that might exist.

Welcome, Devonte!
