Remember when Rhule hired Matt Lubick as a co-OC here, he lasted about three days (maybe less) before bouncing, and then we got Jeff Nixon and Glenn Thomas instead? That was weird, right? Well it turns out we may have topped the weirdness with tonight’s announcement that Troy OC Ryan Pugh will NOT join our staff after all. In a curiously vague statement, Aranda confirmed tonight that Pugh isn’t coming:
Baylor's Dave Aranda: "“Since the recent announcement of Ryan Pugh as Baylor’s offensive line coach, we have decided to move in a different direction. We are currently in the process of filling the resulting vacancy. We wish Ryan the best in his future endeavors.”

Aranda says Baylor was the one that decided to move in a different direction, but it’s entirely possible this is a “I broke up with you, you didn’t break up with me” sort of deal. We’ll never know. What we do know is that Pugh isn’t coming and Baylor still needs an OL coach. I’m not going to speculate about what happened here or why, since there’s literally no way to know unless you’re Aranda, Pugh, Mack, or maybe someone else involved in the hiring process.
Weird.
