Just a few days after we first learned that allegations had been made against Shawn Oakman regarding sexual assault, the Waco Tribune-Herald is reporting that he has now been arrested based on those allegations. This news comes on the heels of an ESPN Outside the Lines report this morning that Baylor waited 2 years to investigate other allegations of sexual assault against former football players.
Other than the report of the arrest, there's not much new in what the Trib has now. Oakman has stated that he had consensual sex with the alleged victim, which she obviously disputes. The police searched his apartment earlier this week, removing bedsheets from the premises. At this time, those are about all the facts we have. If anything changes going forward, I'll do my best to keep you informed. As always, I'd ask that you think carefully before commenting here and keep the trolling/rivalry/bashing nonsense to a minimum.
UPDATE: Below is the release from the Waco PD.
The request for cell phone data is somewhat interesting, and it could mean that there was contact between Oakman and the alleged victim or the police are looking to see what, if anything, he said about the sexual encounter.
