Baylor DC Phil Bennett says DE Sam Ukwuachu is "expected" to return for 2015

The strongest unit on Baylor's defense could get even stronger.

One of the biggest mysteries surrounding Baylor's defense this season concerned Boise State transfer DE Sam Ukwuachu, who was supposed to be eligible to play in 2014 after sitting out a season following his transfer but has yet to see the field as a Bear.  Rumors abounded about what was keeping the former freshman All-American from donning the green and gold, but we never got any firm word and probably never will.

According to Phil Bennett on today's John Morris Show, however, Ukwuachu is "expected" to return for his last year of eligibility and rejoin the team in July. If that happens, Ukwuachu could provide even more valuable depth to a unit that already returns three different starters from last season in seniors Shawn Oakman and Jamal Palmer (who is returning from an injury that cost him the second half of the season), and sophomore K.J. Smith.  Throw Ukwuachu into the mix behind those three with Brian Nance and you could have the potential for two solid flights of DEs.

Until Ukwuachu actually returns and is restored to the roster, we won't know for sure whether this comes to pass.  Considering it's the first time we've heard anything about him in quite a while, though, I'm excited that things may be moving in a positive direction.
