Saturday, December 3 -- GAME DAY -- Football vs. West Virginia; Basketball vs. Xavier

Could be a pretty momentous day in Baylor Athletics, as Football attempts to end a 5-game slide with their first-ever win in Morgantown and Top-10 Basketball faces off against #7 Xavier.

What a day we have before us.  As a programming note, we will have separate game threads for the football and basketball games, both of which start at 2:30 PM.  My guess is that one will be a little more full than the other.

If you're headed south for the basketball game (and I highly suggest that you go, if you can!), safe travels on your way!

The Bears travel to Morgantown today for the last game of our regular season against the #16 (according to the CFB Playoff rankings) Mountaineers of West Virginia.  Baylor will try to end a 5-game skid since getting bowl eligible against Kansas nearly two months ago, but chances don't look good. As of this writing, WVU is a 17.5-point favorite, and that's actually up from the 14 points where the line opened.

If Baylor is going to have a chance in this one, it will have to reverse several disturbing trends from recent games, particularly on the offense, and get a career game (in a short career, mind you) from Zach Smith in what will be a very hostile environment.  The defense will also have to play significant better against the run and pass than it has in recent weeks, and there's not a lot of reason to think that will happen.  WVU is going for a 10-win season and a chance at their highest ranking to end the year in quite some time.  They should be extremely motivated against a team that may not be.

At the same time the Bears and Mountaineers are kicking off on FS1, the Bears and Musketeers will be tipping off on ESPN2 and WatchESPN.  Hopefully the atmosphere inside the Ferrell Center will be appropriately raucous for an early-season matchup of Top-10 teams, the Bears having earned their status as such with impressive wins over Oregon, VCU, Michigan State, and Louisville.

COACHING SEARCH

In addition to the basketball and football games, there's a chance that we could get some news about our ongoing search for the new Head Football Coach at Baylor University.  Two of the rumored candidates -- Colorado's Mike MacIntyre and WMU's PJ Fleck -- finished their regular seasons in games last night, so we might see some movement.  It's important to note, however, that MacIntyre reportedly told someone from the Denver Post last night in no uncertain terms that he was not coming to Baylor.

So there's that.

TWEETS TWEETS TWEETS TWEETS TWEETS:

We can use this as our open thread until the game threads go up.  Have a great Saturday, everyone!
