My subject line isn't overstating things, I think. Baylor welcomed the #1-ranked team in the country into its house tonight and absolutely destroyed it. We've never beaten a #1-ranked team before tonight. Now we have. At this moment, euphoric Baylor fans are streaming over the barricades on one of the greatest nights in program history. I hope they enjoy it now as much as I did when I was there.
The impact of this game will be felt across the country for years. The National Championship race is completely different. The Heisman race is completely different. The entire scope of college football in the 2012 season is different. Because the 4-5 Baylor Bears shocked the world. Because the much-maligned Baylor defense shook itself off, planted its flag, and absolutely shut down one of the best quarterbacks and offenses in the country. The Heisman was lost tonight because Baylor made it so. I've never seen a Baylor team play like that, and they deserve tremendous credit for their performance. Gentlemen, you were outstanding.
The Bears thought they could do it, as evidenced by Terrance Williams' pregame prediction. The fans though they could do it as you can see from my prediction poll. A few members of the media thought we could do it, but not many. Now they know. The 2012 Baylor Bears put their mark on college football tonight, and it was amazing. What a game!
