Injury Report: WRs Coleman and Goodley, RB Chafin WILL play Saturday against Iowa State

With Baylor bringing back three big weapons Saturday in Ames, the offensive machine could be getting ready to hit another gear entirely.

Friend of the blog Craig Smoak of ESPN1660 in Waco brought another injury update to Baylor Nation from practice this afternoon when he reported the following via Twitter:

He also confirmed in a subsequent tweet that RB Devin Chafin is also expected to play, meaning Baylor could be getting back three at least nominal starters heading into Big 12 play.  That brings us to the following injury situation:

  • WR Antwan Goodley -- WILL PLAY -- Goodley sustained some kind of quad injury in the first drive against SMU on August 31 and has missed all of the last two games.  He is now reportedly ready to go.
  • WR Corey Coleman -- WILL PLAY -- Coleman has not played at all this season due to a hamstring injury and will be making his season debut against the Cyclones.
  • WR Clay Fuller -- OUT -- Fuller is still recovering from a broken clavicle and will not return this week.
  • WR Levi Norwood -- OUT -- Norwood is still recovering from wrist surgery and will not return this week.
  • RB Devin Chafin -- WILL PLAY -- Chafin played briefly against SMU before suffering a high ankle sprain and missing the last two games.  He is now reportedly ready to go and should provide an immediate boost to Baylor's rushing offense.
  • OL LaQuan McGowan -- "HOPEFUL" -- Briles said yesterday that he's hopeful McGowan, who is also recovering from a high ankle sprain suffered on the first TD drive against Buffalo, will return Saturday.  McGowan has been playing LG with the #2 OL and in Baylor's jumbo sets near the goal line, as well as on special teams.

One additional note from Smoak:

That's good information that answers a question I would have had with those two returning, especially Coleman.  If neither is going to be involved in returns, expect to see Lynx Hawthorne back deep on kicks and Cal Spangler returning punts.
