Baylor Opens as 6-Point Favorite at TCU

Hot off the presses!

NCAA Football: Texas at Baylor Stephen Spillman-USA TODAY Sports

The opening lines for most of this week’s games have dropped, and the Baylor Bears are officially 6-point favorites over the TCU Horned Frogs for Saturday’s game in Fort Worth as of this writing per VegasInsider.com. Other lines of note (home team first):

Alabama (-25) vs. LSU
Iowa State (-6) vs. Texas
A&M (-6) vs. Auburn
Purdue vs. Michigan State (-2.5)
UNC (-2.5) vs. Wake Forest
West Virginia vs. Oklahoma State (-3)

Some of these are of note because they could be meaningful for us; others because they surprised me. You can check the full listings here, and they will continue to update over time as they always do, but particularly today.

Baylor is up to #19 in Bill C’s SP+ rankings on ESPN (available here for $$$), while TCU is now down to #60. Normally this, combined with recent performances, would make me think a 6-point spread is too low and likely to move quickly in Baylor’s direction. That may be the case, but I will say this is a picture-perfect example of a rivalry game that is also a potential trap game with Baylor playing Oklahoma (off this week) the week after. I expect TCU will be ready regardless their issues.
