Tweets of the Night: Baylor Jarrett Stidhams Kansas State

The Big News:

Jarrett Stidham aced his first test as Baylor QB in a place that Briles hates to play against a team designed to frustrate every aspect of our team. He was amazing, and I've already started seeing some of the "narrative" turn with respect to whether Baylor has the QB it needs to make a run.

Players of the Game:

Jarrett Stidham -- 23/33 for 419 yards and 3 TDs passing, 1 TD rushing
Corey Coleman -- 11 catches for 216 yards and 2 TDs
KD Cannon -- 4 catches for 108 yards and 1 TD

I normally trust the defensive stats on BaylorBears.com pretty faithfully, but I don't for this game considering they show Shawn Oakman as having zero tackles for loss.  I'm 100% sure that's not true.  I'm 80% sure he should get credit for half a sack, too.

5 More Thoughts:

  1. Baylor led 28-10 going into the fourth quarter and, in my opinion, turtled after that content to eek out a win.  While I hate the approach because it's backfired on us before, I also understand it.  But understanding does not mean agreeing, and I don't think it was the right call to stop the run blitzes that had served us so well in the second and third quarters, in the fourth.  That's how KSU got their points late.
  2. The holding call on LaQuan McGowan that took away what should have been a TD drive to make it 38-24 was 100% bogus.  Think about how much better you'd feel having beaten KSU by 14 in Manhattan behind a freshman QB.  Now realize that should have happened, anyway.  Another bogus call was the combination no-call and hands-in-the-face with Taylor Young on Joe Hubener's long TD.  At worst, it should have been offsetting penalties with no play.  At best, it's a holding call on KSU pushing them back ten yards.
  3. Corey Coleman now has 20 TDs on the season through 8 games, meaning he needs 8 more in at least 5 games to get the NCAA record.  Make of that what you will.
  4. As Therm tweeted last night, since 2000, 8 QBs have thrown for 419 yards in a road game on 33 or fewer attempts.  Stidham is the only freshman.  Cherry-picked stats? Sure.  But still meaningful.
  5. I don't know why KSU ever threw a pass.

I'm going to spare you guys an updated Top 10 after just one game (ours).  Check back on Sunday.
