Just a few minutes ago, I officially marked the start of the 2015 football season here at ODB by creating the Baylor Bears 2015 Football Season group, where everything related to this coming season will go. That simultaneously marks the end of the 2015 offseason, seemingly the longest in recent memory.
I did that because, according to rumors that are as-yet unconfirmed officially, Baylor's players report today for another CampBU. For us, that means it's time to get down to business and prepare for this season in earnest, starting with an old favorite of the board: the Position Preview series.
2015 Position Previews:
In case you're unfamiliar with what these are-- each year, I take a position-by-position look at the Baylor roster, breaking down the depth chart to identify starters and likely contributors, giving whatever information we have or can find about the individual players, and showing how things stand for each position group as best we can. Here's the schedule I've worked out for this year.
Reminder: Baylor's first game this season is @ SMU on Friday, 9/4.
Monday, 8/10: QBs
Tuesday, 8/11: RBs
Wednesday, 8/12: WRs
Thursday, 8/13: TEs
Friday, 8/14: OL
Monday, 8/17: DTs
Tuesday, 8/18: DEs
Wednesday, 8/19: LBs/NBs
Thursday, 8/20: CBs
Friday, 8/21: Safeties
Saturday, 8/22: Special Teams
That schedule should give us plenty of time to work through the offense and defense with a full week between the end of those previews and the start of SMU Week. Also, please note that I'm splitting the TEs out for the first time in ODB history. Call it the McGowan Effect, if you will.
2015 Community Projections
Once again, I failed completely to actually do anything with the information derived from last year's Community Projections. There's just so much of it, and the task is so big, that it go away from me again. I know I just gave a couple of excuses, but really, there's no excuse.
So here's the deal: I'm going to put it to a vote of the ODB Faithful as to whether or not you want to do it again this coming season. If you do, I pledge to bring in whatever help I can find to actually do something with the Community Projections in a timely fashion. If you don't, that's totally cool with me, too. Vote in the Poll below and we'll see what happens.
In the meantime, here's a Proposed schedule for the Projections, should we decide to do them:
Monday, 8/10: QB Seth Russell
Tuesday, 8/11: RB Shock Linwood
Wednesday, 8/12: RBs Johnny Jefferson / Devin Chafin
Thursday, 8/13: TEs Tre'von Armstead / LaQuan McGowan
Friday, 8/14: WR Corey Coleman
Monday, 8/17: WR K.D. Cannon
Tuesday, 8/18: WR Jay Lee
Wednesday, 8/19: WR Lynx Hawthorne
Thursday, 8/20: DT Andrew Billings
Friday, 8/21: DT Beau Blackshear
Monday, 8/24: DE Shawn Oakman
Tuesday, 8/25: DE Jamal Palmer OR DE K.J. Smith
Wednesday, 8/26: LB Grant Campbell
Thursday, 8/27: LB Taylor Young OR Aiavion Edwards
Friday, 8/28: NB Travon Blanchard
Monday, 8/31: CB Xavien Howard
Tuesday, 9/1: CB Ryan Reid OR Tion Wright
Wednesday, 9/2: S Orion Stewart
Thursday, 9/3: S Terrell Burt
That leads us right up to the game on 9/4, should the fine people of ODB decide they want to do it.
This list assumes the depth chart shakes out as expected at this point. If, for example, somebody beats out Campbell at MLB (not saying they will, but if they do), we'll project for that player instead. We may also have to move things around to make the dates fit, in case we decide to do more WRs (like Davion Hall and/or Chris Platt).
If you have any ideas for other things you'd like to see as we gear up for the 2015 season, feel free to post them here or email me directly at OurDailyBears (at) gmail (dot) com, except in the normal format for emails. I intend to do all the things we've normally done, like a breakdown of the depth charts when they become available, posts focusing on the biggest issues on offense and defensive, polls about breakout players, potential freshman contributors, etc. But if there's something you haven't seen before and would like to, please let us know.
Also, vote in the poll below about Community Projections!
Oh, and I need to update that Scholarship Chart badly. I'll get to it.
