With the close of the regular season now behind us, we've entered that portion of the year where every media outlet/group in the country rushes to publish their All-whatever teams as quickly as they can. First up today is the Associated Press, which released its All-Big 12 team, complete with offensive and defensive Players of the Year, around noon.
As you might expect considering our team won the conference championship outright, Baylor led the way on this list with 6 players honored on the First Team. The first was QB Bryce Petty, who was also honored as the conference's Offensive Player of the Year. Robert Griffin III was the last Baylor player so named in 2011. Petty was joined on the first team offense by Baylor WR Antwan Goodley, RB Lache Seastrunk, and OG Cyril Richardson. Petty, Goodley, and Richardson were all unanimous selections. Injuries were likely the only thing keeping WR Tevin Reese and OT Spencer Drango, both of whom were named to the All-Big 12 Second Team, from joining their brethren on the first. On the other side, LB Eddie Lackey was the only Bear represented, a bit of a surprise considering the strong year from S Ahmad Dixon. The AP chose only one safety on the First Team in order to make room for Jason Verrett, Aaron Colvin, and Justin Gilbert. Dixon joined Chris McAllister and Bryce Hager on the second team.
To put this in a little easier format to understand, from the official list:
Baylor First Teamers:
QB Bryce Petty
RB Lache Seastrunk
WR Antwan Goodley
OG Cyril Richardson
LB Eddie Lackey
P Spencer Roth
Baylor Second Teamers:
OT Spencer Drango
WR Tevin Reese
DE Chris McAllister
LB Bryce Hager
S Ahmad Dixon
Congratulations, gentlemen!
