Defend The Ferrell

Because you don't want to make Rico Gathers mad. You wouldn't like Rico when he's mad.

Happy Friday to ya! As always, it's a great day to be a Baylor Bear. But especially right now! Your basketball team is on a five game conference winning streak for the first time since 1998 and sits all alone in first place in the Big 12 at 5-1. You heard me right. First place! See how good this looks?

It's pretty darn fantastic. And it's time that we start to get behind this team and give them a packed house in the Ferrell Center. You've seen first hand just what a great home field advantage that our fans have brought the last five years supporting Art Briles' football team at Floyd Casey Stadium and now at McLane Stadium. Baylor has become one of the toughest places for opponents to win on the road in all of college football. And if we can fill 45,000 for a Saturday football game, I don't think there is any reason why we can't fill 10,284 for a Saturday basketball game.

I was a student at Baylor when Scott Drew was first turning around the basketball program. I was there at the same time as the first NCAA Tournament team in 2008 and the Elite Eight squad in 2010. It was an awesome time to be a Baylor basketball fan. Baylor football back then wasn't what Baylor football is today so the basketball team was the center of attention. And I saw just how loud and crazy the Ferrell Center could get.

Now we have an opportunity to do something truly special. Tomorrow, Baylor is hosting #1 Oklahoma. This is just the third time in program history that the #1 team the country will descend upon Waco. Conference championship implications are on the line for *both* teams. Baylor hasn't won a conference championship in men's basketball since 1950. And while it's a long shot that this team will be able to hold the Big 12 lead all the way until March, who says we can't dream big? It starts with taking care of home court. And while the Bears have won 15 straight home games, we'll need to provide that extra push with Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa State and West Virginia still on the schedule.

Coach Drew says all the time: You can watch a game at home or you can come out and affect the game. I hope to see a packed, striped out Ferrell Center at 11:00 tomorrow morning. Bring your vocal cords too. You just might need them. GET HYPE. Sic Em Bears!
