For the second time in as many games, a team named the Aggies waltzed into the Ferrell Center expecting victory and were ultimately disappointed, as tonight the Bears defeated New Mexico State 66-55. It wasn't easy by any means, an
My first note tonight: This is a GOOD defensive team. Like, REALLY good. It has the potential to become a really special unit over the course of conference play, but I personally couldn't be more impressed with the play of the defense. (I do have a comment on rebounding that I'll make below, but it's nothing negative.)
Johnathan Motley led all scorers with 16. Al Freeman and Lester Medford also pitched in to the scoring effort with 10 points each. Royce O'Neale was ice cold tonight, only scoring six points on 3-10 shooting and 0-2 from long range.
DENG DENG had a perfect game. DENG DENG was 1-1 from the field and 2-2 from the free throw line.
So, one thing I've noticed (and this is just a personal opinion of mine, do feel free to disagree) is that I think the guys need to be more physical down low grabbing rebounds. It's not a significant problem but I don't sense a lot of physicality and domination under the basket. Sure, we just held an SEC opponent to zero offensive rebounds but I do believe we just need to be a liiiiiiiitle more ferocious grabbing boards. That's it. Like I said, it's not an issue, but there is room for improvement.
Oh, yeah. The worst call in basketball history was made tonight, and Rico Gathers was the victim.
The worst charge call I've ever seen. Maybe the worst call period. Unbelievable: https://t.co/jLZsn4yfOu

This really might've been the worst call I've ever seen as well, and I genuinely mean that. But hey, whattaya gonna do. Look at Rico's face at the end. Goodness. You do not want to piss that man off, zebras. Send up your prayers tonight for the next rim that Rico decides to throw down a dunk on because it will die.
I didn't get to watch 75% of this game because I had church tonight, but I'm so excited for conference play. Mark my words, guys. This #SQUAD may not be national title material, this #SQUAD may not be Big 12 *co*-champion material, but this #SQUAD is certainly special. They're going to surprise a lot of people this year. Just watch.
