Opponent: Texas Southern
Nickname: Tigers
Kickoff: September 11th, 6:00 PM CT
Television: ESPN+
Location: McLane Stadium
Conference: Southwestern Athletic Conference (FCS)
Head Coach: Clarence McKinney (entering third season)
Last Year’s Record: 1-2 (the one win being a forfeit)
Notable Outcomes: Lost to Prairie View A&M 20-19; lost to Southern University 51-23; forfeit by Alcorn State
Key Losses: Devin Williams QB
Strength: Defensive end. Michael Badejo was a second-team all SWAC selection from the short spring season. Demontario Anderson will anchor the opposite side of the defensive line.
Weakness: Quarterback. Texas Southern couldn’t find an identity at quarterback as three different players took meaningful snaps at the position in just two games played. Devin Williams, one of those potential quarterbacks, transferred.
Way Too Early Prediction: Texas Southern is coming off of a bizarre, two game spring schedule. It’s tough to say if that will help or hurt the Tigers as they make a quick turnaround and prepare for the fall. Regardless, they didn’t win any games against FCS competition (other than a forfeit). So not only is this an FCS game, but an FCS game against a pretty mediocre FCS squad. Baylor should be able to cruise to a relatively easy victory here and likely start the season 2-0.
49-6 Baylor
