Big 12 Tournament: Schedule, Storylines, and Other Games Thread

NCAA Basketball: Big 12 Tournament-Iowa State vs Oklahoma State William Purnell-USA TODAY Sports

The Big 12 Tournament tips off on Wednesday and just like in years past, it’s shaping up to be an entertaining week in Kansas City. Despite the unique challenges from this past year the conference delivered in drama and quality play. And there’s still a lot on the line for both Baylor and the other conference members.

Maybe the most intriguing storyline is all the NCAA tournament bound teams (besides Baylor) quest to secure a #3 seed. Currently, several Big 12 teams are hovering around the 3/4/5 seed line. Because conventional wisdom says you want to avoid a potential matchup with a #1 seed in the Sweet Sixteen, it’s important for these teams to have a good showing in Kansas City. I think there is room for maybe 1 or 2 Big teams to get on that 3-seed line. And it’s actually something for Bears fans to keep their eye on as well. There’s a chance the committee will have no choice but to spread out the Big 12 teams in every region and that means Baylor could potentially be seeing a Big 12 opponent for the 3rd of 4th time in the Sweet Sixteen.

Beyond the NCAA tournament implications, there are other fun storylines as well. You have an Oklahoma team that has been struggling as of late with a solid chance to regain some momentum and make some noise. They get Iowa State on Wednesday and with a win would face a Jayhawk team without their star player. Fans will also get a chance to watch Cade Cunningham perform in the postseason. And maybe the most anticipated early game is the Texas-Texas Tech game on Thursday night @ 8:30 PM; Tech has had the Longhorns number recently but a win could solidify Texas with a 3 seed.

It all starts tomorrow night @ 5:30 PM with Kansas State vs. TCU, followed by Iowa State taking on the Sooners. Baylor fans will have to wait until Thursday afternoon @ 1:30 PM to watch Baylor take on winner of the Kansas State-TCU game.

Enjoy the games.
