Big 12 MBB Preview: 2/20

NCAA Basketball: Texas at West Virginia Ben Queen-USA TODAY Sports

#15 Texas Tech @ #23 Kansas

Saturday, February 20th 1:00 PM CT, ESPN

#15 Texas Tech (14-6, 6-5) is back in action after their last three games were postponed. The last game they actually played was a loss to West Virginia. #23 Kansas (16-7, 10-5) has stabilized some after slipping out of the rankings a week ago. They have won four games in row. Granted, three of those games were against the bottom two teams in the conference. If Kansas wants to prove they have some shot of making something substantial out of this season, they need to pick up a big win like this game would be. It’s hard to say what the Red Raiders will look like coming out of their postponement break. That, combined with Kansas defeating the Red Raiders in Lubbock in their first matchup, makes me lean Kansas in this one.

73-71 Kansas

#13 West Virginia @ #12 Texas

Saturday, February 20th 2:00 PM CT, ABC

The marquee Big 12 matchup of the day features #13 West Virginia (14-6, 7-4) traveling to #12 Texas (13-5, 7-4). After a three game losing streak, Texas seems to have somewhat righted the ship as they won their last two games against Kansas State and TCU. Their game against Oklahoma during the week was postponed. West Virginia had a three game winning streak snapped by a one point loss to Oklahoma. Their weekday game against Baylor was also postponed. The Mountaineers lost their last game against the Longhorns by two points in Morgantown. I like the hot hand, especially when they are at home. Texas by a few.

74-71 Texas

Kansas State @ TCU

Saturday, February 20th 4:00 PM CT, ESPN+

Kansas State (5-18, 1-13) desperately needs to pick up another Big 12 win for pride at this point. They haven’t won a game since December and that was a two point win over a terrible Omaha squad. TCU (11-8, 4-6) needs to win here to inch back closer to .500 in conference play. The Horned Frogs’ last game was a 15 point loss to Texas and they had their two weekday games against Texas Tech postponed. Kansas State’s last game was a low-scoring loss to rival Kansas. I expect TCU to be able to pull out the victory here. The Horned Frogs won by 7 the last time these two faced off.

75-62 TCU

#9 Oklahoma @ Iowa State

Saturday, February 20th 5:00 PM CT, ESPN2

#9 Oklahoma (13-5, 8-4) has emerged as one of the surprise, elite teams in the Big 12. The Sooners won their last game against West Virginia by one point. Their game against Texas during the week was postponed because of the snowstorms. They now travel to Iowa State (2-15, 0-12) who is even more desperate for a win than the Wildcats. Oklahoma beat the Cyclones in their last meeting in what was a surprisingly close, 7 point victory. The Sooners should be able to beat Iowa State to complete the sweep, but it might be another close game.

75-70 Oklahoma
